Mr Soltz said Berlin was working hard to create the conditions that would allow it to end its oil and gas imports from Moscow, stressing that “there is no doubt” that both Berlin and the European Union would end their dependence on energy imports from Moscow. “
The German chancellor stated that the search for liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals and the activation of alternative energy sources has begun.
In his closing remarks at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Olaf Solz said that the horror in Ukraine could not be ignored. “It keeps us awake at night; will it extend beyond the borders of Ukraine?”, he wondered, adding that Putin would only seriously negotiate peace if his army could not break the Ukrainian defense forces. “Neither Ukraine nor the European Union will accept the peace dictated by Putin,” he said.
Solz clarified that “NATO will not be part of this war”, as, as he said, such a thing would bring two nuclear powers into conflict. He added, however, that Germany to welcome Sweden and Finland to the Alliance with “open arms”.
Earlier, Solz spoke about the effects of the war on the international community, saying “we can not let Putin win this war and I firmly believe that he will not win it.” He added that his country would be ready to defend itself at any time against Russia’s actions.
