Eight cases of smallpox have been added to monkeys in the last 24 hours in the UK, according to the UK Health Insurance Agency (UKHSA).
There are now a total of 85 localized cases in England. The first confirmed bodies have also been announced in Wales and Northern Ireland. Along with the three in Scotland, now the United Kingdom numbers 90 confirmed monkeypox patients.
As the UKHSA notes in the latest announcement, the risk to the population remains low, but people are urged to be vigilant for rashes and skin sores anywhere on the body.
“While this advice applies to everyone, the majority of cases that have been identified so far are between gay, bisexual and men who have sex with men, so we ask these people to be especially aware of the symptoms, especially if “they recently had a new sexual partner”, the announcement emphasizes.
