The Prime Minister of Slovakia Edward Heger said Monday it would support a European oil embargo on Russia, provided that Slovakia will be able to get oil from its neighbors in the event of a supply cut.
“We fully support alternatives to Russian oil and gas – on the other hand, we need the help of our partners,” he said. European Council as reported by Politico.
“We have always been a reliable partner in the transit of oil and gas,” he added. “Now, in the event of an emergency, we will need our partners who have access to the sea to do the same.”
Heger also said he had spoken to the Hungarian prime minister Victor Orban before the summit in an effort to persuade him to support the oil embargo.
“I pointed out to him that unity is very important, I was trying to get him involved,” Heger said. “I also stressed that the money given for Russian oil and gas finances Russian aggression in Ukraine.”
