The Russian army is gathering forces in the face of an attack in the city of Slovyansk, in eastern Ukraine, the Ukrainian General Staff warned on Friday via Facebook.

Administratively, Slovyansk is part of the Danyetsk region of eastern Ukraine. Russia has a stated goal of occupying all of eastern Ukraine, the so-called Donbas region, in the war that has now entered its 101st day.
This city is located near Severodonetsk, where fierce hostilities have been raging for several days. The Russian military and pro-Russian separatists say Sheverdonyevsk has almost completely fallen into their hands, but the Ukrainian side assured yesterday that it had recovered one-fifth of the provisional capital of the Luhansk region, despite heavy shelling by Russian artillery.
