Cyprus’s Foreign Minister for Turkey: It distorts reality – It creates tensions in our region

by

“The Republic of Cyprus, as a sovereign State, will continue to exercise its sovereign rights and implement its international obligations,” reads a statement issued by the Cypriot Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

It is with frustration that we observe it once again sharpening of Turkish rhetoric aimed at, among other things, distorting reality and the creation of tensions in our region, this time on the occasion of the exercise “Agapinor”, refers to an announcement of the Cypriot Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The same announcement and regarding the statements of the spokesman of the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the exercise “AGAPINOR” emphasizes that:

“The Republic of Cyprus, as a sovereign State, will continue to exercise its sovereign rights and implement its international obligations, strengthening cooperation with states in the region in a wide range of areas, including security and defense. The purpose of such exercises, which are based on virtual scenarios, is exclusively to strengthen the defense capabilities of the National Guard, the strengthening of bilateral and regional cooperation and the creation of conditions of security and stability in the Eastern Mediterranean. These are collaborations that are governed by the principle of inclusion, without excluding and without turning against any neighboring country. Unfortunately, it is once again confirmed that the only country that consistently causes destabilization of the region is Turkey, which with its revisionist approach tries to strengthen the climate and to torpedo any efforts of our side to resolve the Cyprus issue. Such actions are also directed against the Turkish Cypriots themselves, whom Turkey is trying to instrumentalize and hold hostage in the effort to impose its policy towards Cyprus. The sincerity of each side’s intentions is not judged by public statements, nor is it tested by non-existent rhetorical outbursts. “Everyone’s sincerity is judged by the proposals and initiatives he undertakes to solve problems and deadlocks on the basis of international law and not by actions that circumvent, undermine and violate individual provisions.”
