The woman took home her set of sofas from Craigslist and discovered her life after finding more than $36,000 ($728,700) in her pillow.
Vicki Umodu was exploring the online furniture market when she came across a free classified ad with two sofas and a matching chair.
“Maybe this is a trick. Let’s call them,” Umodu of San Bernardino, California, told ABC7.
However, he learned that it was his family that was stealing the belongings of his deceased relatives.
He said: I just moved and there is nothing in my house. He was so excited that I picked it up and brought it.
When he examined the state of the furniture in the house, he noticed something strange: one of the pillows was too big.
At first thinking it might be a thermal blanket, Umezu pulled out the pillowcase and found an envelope containing thousands of dollars in cash.
He said: “I was telling my son, ‘Come on, come on!’. ‘This is money! I have to call the boy!'”
Instead of leaving it all alone, he immediately returned the money and said: They are all alive. I have three wonderful grandchildren, what can I ask God for?
When he returned the money, the family told Mr. Umodu that the cash was hidden throughout the house.
As a token of appreciation, they gave Mr. Umodu $2,200 to buy a new refrigerator, even though he “didn’t expect Rs10,000”.
