War in Ukraine raises cost of living, says UN – No country will be left untouched

by

According to the UN Secretary-General, the war is exacerbating climate crises, pandemics and inequalities.

THE Russian invasion of Ukraine combined with other global crises has led to greater increase in the cost of living for a generation, stressed yesterday Wednesday Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations.

According to Guterres, the world is facing a “new reality” for three months after the war broke outwho as he pointed out, exacerbates the impact of other global crises: this climate, this pandemic of the new coronavirus and this inequality.

Some 1.6 billion people in 94 countries are exposed to at least one dimension of the crisis, according to the latest Global Crisis Response Group newsletter on the conflict in Ukraine.

“For people all over the world, war, along with other crises, threatens to cause an unprecedented wave of famine, displacement, social and economic chaos.” Mr. Guterres warned during a press conference in New York.

No country will be left untouched from the crisis triggered by rising cost of living, discounted. Populations around the world will face the risk of hunger, while energy costs are rising as incomes for many workers shrink, he continued.

The number of people experiencing severe food insecurity has doubled in the last two years, he recalled.

“The current food security crisis is in real danger of turning into a ‘global catastrophe in 2023,'” Guterres told a news conference.
