The average cost of refueling a typical family car exceeded ფ100 for the first time.
According to data company Experian Catalyst, 1 liter of UK petrol hit a record 182.3 pence on Wednesday.
This is an increase of 1.6 pence from the previous day, and the average replacement cost of a 55 liter family car has risen to 0.2100.27.
For its part, the average price of a liter of diesel was recorded on Wednesday at 188.1 pence.
The situation is likely to worsen as the domestic crisis continues.
Front-wheel drive stations at petrol stations already sell petrol and diesel for more than £2 a litre.
RAC fuel spokesman Simon Williams said an average petrol price above the “most depressing threshold of £100 a tank” means a “really dark day” for drivers.
“Inflationary pressure is almost certain to increase, which is bad news for everyone,” he added.
“Fuel prices set new records every day, but families up and down the country couldn’t expect the cost of filling up an average-size family car to hit triple digits.”
Many people want more financial support from the government, as Williams said the 5 pence a liter fuel tax cut “seems small” as wholesale petrol prices have quintupled since it took place in March.
“More tax cuts or temporary VAT cuts can go a long way in helping drivers, especially low-income people who have no choice but to drive,” he added.
