Wearing eyeglasses and a light blue suit, Spacey arrived in court this morning, where a crowd of journalists was waiting for him, with his bodyguards trying to clear the way, setting aside TV crews and photographers.
Kevin Spacey has categorically denied any wrongdoing, the lawyer said today, as the Oscar-winning actor appeared in a British court to face charges, some of which involved events 20 years ago.
The actor was released without any conditions.
THE Spacey, 62, is charged with five counts which he allegedly committed in Britain against three men – four involving sexual assault with rape and a more serious one involving the coercion of a person into a sexual act involving penetration without his consent, which is different from rape.
Prosecutors say Spacey also forced a man into oral sex.
Wearing eyeglasses and a light blue suit, Spacey arrived at a Westminster courthouse in London this morning, where a crowd of journalists was waiting for him, with his bodyguards trying to clear the street, setting aside TV crews and photographers.
He spoke in court only to confirm that his name is Kevin Spacey Fowler and his address in London.
During the hearing, the actor remained expressionless.
“Mr. Spacey categorically denies his guilt in the case,” his defense attorney Patrick Gibbs told the court.
He added that the actor has responded to all the accusations during his interrogation three years ago in the US and has fully cooperated with the investigating authorities.
If convicted of sexual assault, Spacey faces up to six months in prison or an unlimited fine, while the most serious offense he is charged with carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.
Spacey, originally referred to as “Mr. Fowler” by the prosecutor and the judge, will reappear in a London court on July 14.
The offenses he is accused of are said to have been committed between 2005 and 2013 – four in London and one in Gloucestershire in the west of England.
The alleged victims are a man in his forties and two in their thirties.
The actor’s lawyer said that his client should be able to leave Britain for work and because his family is in the US, including his 9-year-old dog.
Spacey, one of Hollywood’s biggest stars, has almost disappeared from the public eye after being charged with sex offenses five years ago.
Ever since the accusations against him became known, the Oscar-winning Best Actor for the film American Beauty and B ‘Male Role for the film Usual Suspectsremoved from the TV series House of Cards and from the movie All the Money in the World.
