Brazil: Remains in Amazon belong to British journalist Dom Phillips

“The confirmation was made after a dental examination,” Brazilian police said in a press release.

The forensic examination of the remains found in the Amazon confirmed that they belong to the British journalist Dom Phillips, who disappeared on June 5 together with the Brazilian supporter of the natives and the environment Bruno Pereira, as the investigating police announced today.

“The confirmation was made after a dental examination,” Brazilian police said in a press release.

“The identification work continues with the aim of better understanding the cause of death, the circumstances of the crime and the concealment of the corpses,” he added.

Earlier, the police said that from the information they have gathered so far, they estimate that “the killers acted alone” and not on behalf of a “criminal organization”.

The remains of Dom Phillips were found Wednesday at a location indicated by one of the two arrested in the case, a fisherman named Amarildo da Costa de Oliveira, who confessed to burying the bodies.

However, Native Americans, who have been actively involved in the investigation, claim that the double murder was the work of a criminal organization. “It was not just the two killers, but an organized group that planned the crime down to the smallest detail,” they said in a statement, contradicting police estimates.
