This scheme is about 10 times more than the previous UK training program in the UK.

Boris Johnson has announced a new round of British military exercises for the Ukrainian army, hoping it will “change the equation” against Russia.

On his second surprise visit to Kyiv on Friday, the prime minister said Britain could train up to 10,000 soldiers every 120 days.

After meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, he made a statement to the Ukrainian people, saying that Britain would be with you until you finally win.

A Downing Street spokesman said the exercise would help the Ukrainian military “accelerate deployment, rebuild the army and strengthen the resistance”.

The exercises will be organized by a third country to avert the Russian threat of full-scale nuclear war if NATO troops enter Ukraine’s war zone.

In its current form, the plan involves an army of about 600 men from Ukraine once every three weeks for a crash course in “acquisition of front-line combat skills, basic medical training, cybersecurity and counter-blast tactics.”

This is about 10 times more than the last such plan when British Army officers entered Ukraine in response to Putin’s illegal annexation of Crimea in 2015.

Operation Orbital Orbital trained 22,000 Ukrainian personnel (more than 10% of the country’s military) before the Ukrainian military was shut down by this year’s invasion.

Since February, the UK has promised Ukraine more than $11.3 billion in financial and humanitarian aid.

The assets provided include thousands of British NLAW anti-tank missiles, as well as multiple long-range missile launchers and other state-of-the-art artillery systems.

It is not clear which country will be invited to host the new training program and whether Ukraine has not yet officially accepted the offer, but it is unlikely to be rejected.

Johnson said in a statement: “My visit today in the midst of this war is to send a clear and simple message to the Ukrainian people.

The leaders also discussed Russia’s grain exports, which threaten widespread hunger (Photo: AFP).

“When Ukrainian soldiers launch missiles at Britain to protect their country’s sovereignty, they also do so to protect the freedom we believe in.

“That is why I proposed a new basic military training program for President Zelensky that could change the equation of this war. I decided to use the strongest army to defeat Ukraine.

In addition to the training program, the two leaders also discussed how Britain could help Russia stop Ukrainian grain.

Ukraine, the world’s fourth largest grain exporter, has already warned the farming community about the spread of famine due to bombing.

Experts fear that the blockade of ports and merchant ships could exacerbate poverty in Ukraine and have a devastating impact on low-income countries that depend on trade.
