With excellent sailing conditions and the crews of the boats claiming the first place, both for the 4th race and for the general classification of the event, the 59th Aegean Rally was completed from a competitive point of view. The heavyweight cup was won by the boat “PEGA” of the School of Naval Trials, which equaled the first place in the general classification with the “Velos” of the Olympians Takis Mantis – Pavlos Kayalis. In the last race (Volissos – Sounio) the “Optimum S – Samos Steamship” won. The awarding of the cups will take place on June 20, at the Aegean Maritime Administration.
The crews said goodbye yesterday morning to Volissos of Chios and its hospitable inhabitants and set sail for the return race. The meltemi helped them cross the Aegean Sea from one end to the other on an open slope. The pelagic master, who at times reached all seven Beauforts, led the boats quickly to the Strait of Kafireas (between Evia and Andros) and then the sailors opened balloons to head to Makronisos. With the sunset offering beautiful images, the competitors enjoyed a competitive race and finished in front of the Temple of Poseidon, in Sounio.
The “Goliath” of the fleet of the 59th event, the boat “Optimum S – Samos Steamship” with captains Vangelis Nikolopoulos and Periklis Liva, starred in the 4th race and, thanks to the first, was in the top three of the overall ranking of Performance. “The result was judged on the thread. Congratulations to Tsoulfa and Souvaltzis for the first place but also to our Olympians Mantis and Kayali. “The equality of the two boats shows the competitiveness of the event”, stressed Periklis Livas.
The big winner of the 59th Aegean Rally is the boat “PEGA” of the School of Naval Trials with the captain Theodore Tsoulfas. This is the 2nd time in the history of S.N.D., in the racing category, that it emerges as a winner in the historical sailing institution of POIATH. “The competition was great and the draw we brought with our Olympians shows that. We are very happy and I feel proud of the team and the effort it made “, underlined Thodoris Tsoulfas.
In the Sport category, the winner of the 4th race was the boat “Water Gipsy” with captain Ioannis Maragoudakis. Thanks to this first place, “Water Gipsy” won the first place in the general classification.
