The yacht was destroyed in a fire, prompting a dramatic salvage.
When a 70-foot-high boat capsized in the Piskataka River near Portsmouth, New Hampshire, three people jumped into the water with two dogs.
The fire broke out at 4 p.m. on Saturday and soon spread to the ship.
“What happened on the boat happened fast and they had to jump into the water,” said Todd German, chief of the fire department.
Arthur and Diane Watson (67 and 57), Jarod Tabus (33) and their dog were picked up by another man in a private boat.
The trio noticed black smoke rising from the bottom of the deck and attempted to return the ship to the marina.
But within minutes, smoke filled the deck and they had to abandon ship, USA Today reported.
Watsons, Connecticut and Tabs, Florida suffered minor injuries and mild hypothermia.
After crossing the shore, he was taken to a local hospital and released.
Both of the family’s Goldendoodle dogs were rescued by Marine Corps patrols and said they were in good condition.
The yacht crossed the border into Maine, where it sank.
According to state police, the boat swam out of the harbor and caught waves coming out at night.
The police station’s Marine Patrol Division and Coast Guard responded within minutes, but law enforcement was still unable to save the ship.
The cause of the fire has not been identified.
