Johnson, Erdogan discuss food security, NATO enlargement, defense cooperation

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson had a telephone conversation with the President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdo .an today.

According to Downing Street, key topics of discussion were global food security and bilateral defense and economic co-operation.

Boris Johnson briefed the Turkish President on his recent visit to Kyiv and the two leaders agreed on the importance of ending the Russian offensive war and restoring Ukrainian sovereignty.

Discussions continued on international efforts to urgently end Russia’s blockade of Ukrainian grain exports, which is hitting developing countries hard.

The British Prime Minister welcomed in this regard the continuing leadership shown by Turkey and its commitment to keep the trade corridors open in the Black Sea, Downing Street reported.

Ahead of next week’s NATO summit, Mr Johnson emphasized the UK’s support for Sweden and Finland joining the Alliance and agreed with President Erdogan that all sides would continue to work together to find a way forward.

The two leaders also welcomed the increased bilateral cooperation in defense and security and touched on new opportunities to deepen this cooperation.

They said they look forward to continuing their talks in Madrid next week.
