“A special working session will be dedicated to Ukraine” during the summit and “President Zelensky “he will attend during this special session via video conference,” Albares told a news conference.
“You have to understand the extreme conditions, of absolute complexity, regarding the entry or exit (from Ukraine) of President Zelensky”he stressed.
The Spanish Foreign Minister assured that “the Madrid summit will give a picture of Euro-Atlantic unity”, which “is the best response to Russia’s illegal attack on Ukraine”.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said last week that Zelensky was to attend the forthcoming Alliance summit, but without mentioning what form this participation would take. “He is welcome in person or by video conference,” Stoltenberg said.
Invited by German Chancellor Olaf Solz, Zelensky is also expected to attend a teleconference at the G7 summit in Bavaria on Sunday through Tuesday, amid intense diplomatic mobility following the summit of European leaders in Brussels. is expected to grant Ukraine candidate status for EU membership shortly before the NATO summit.
