Russians rockets hit today a one-storey residential building and a building complex, which houses a kindergarten, in the center of Kiev killing one person and injuring five others, officials said as Moscow intensified air strikes on Ukraine for a second day, Reuters reported.

Firefighters extinguished the fire that had broken out in a nine-storey residential building in the Shevchenkivsky district in the center of the capital, as announced by the emergency services. A crater formed on the roof of the building and debris was thrown at parked cars in front of the building.

“Rescuers rescued a seven-year-old girl alive. Now they are trying to save her mother. There are people under the wreckage.”said the mayor of Kiev Vitali Klitschko and as he wrote on the social network Telegram, many people have already been hospitalized.

Elsewhere, 400 meters from the nine-story building, a Reuters photographer saw a large crater formed by an explosion in the courtyard of a private kindergarten whose windows were broken.

Some private parking lots in the area were also completely destroyed.

Until four explosions occurred in central Kyiv early this morning. Hours later, two more bombs exploded in Kyiv, but there was no evidence of damage, meaning Russian missiles may have been shot down.

Ukrainian police chief Ihor Klimenko told state television that five people had been injured. But police later confirmed that one of the injured had died.

“The Russians hit Kyiv again. Rockets destroyed an apartment building and a kindergarten.” said the head of the office of the Ukrainian president, Andriy Germak.

The last major attack in Kyiv was on June 5 when railway maintenance facilities on the outskirts of the capital were hit.

Universities, restaurants and art galleries are located in the historic Shevchenkivsky district.
