The 17-year-old rescued doll overcame fierce competition and was named the world’s ugliest dog.
Happy Face, a Chinese angry dog, tried to express great emotions while receiving a crown and a $1,500 prize, but the owner, Geneda Benal, was pleased.
Second place went to Ann Lewis’ fluffy dog, Wild Tan, and third place went to Hale Monkey’s Scottish dog, Blue Factor Brussels Griffon.
The world’s ugliest dog competition, which has been running for nearly 50 years, promotes animal adoption to buy animals and “celebrates the flaws that make each dog special and unique.”
He triumphantly returned to Petalm yesterday after a two-year hiatus due to a pandemic in California.
Geneda adopted Happy Face from an Arizona shelter after being rescued from the home of someone grieving for treasure.
Geneda writes of the first time she saw Happy Face during the competition: “When I first met him, he was the happiest creature I’ve ever met.
He approached me and I chose him. I promised her that on that day she would fall so in love that she wouldn’t remember how terrifying her life before hers was.
When Geneda and her family adopted Happy Face in August 2021, they were warned that his various illnesses meant he would not be able to survive for three months.
However, Happy Face will thrive for 10 months.
“The love, kindness and kisses of his mother helped him, he did not live up to the short life that we were all expected to have with his family,” adds Geneda.
Happy Face’s goal is reportedly to be “a longer tongue than Gene Simmons and a bolder smile than Billy Idol.”
Not surprisingly, he doesn’t like to climb stairs to get attention.
His hobbies are “sleeping, snoring, whispering to sleep, making weird noises when he’s happy.”
