France has been accused of murder, torture, child abuse and covering up the death of a child. He is being held without bail.
“The alleged facts in this case shocked me even if I was very tired. Wayne District Attorney Kim Worth said in a statement: ‘Our children are not just victims of gun violence, they are children at home. He is at risk from the killers who supposedly live with him.”
The family of the slain boy told Fox 2 Detroit that the boy was blind and that child protective services called his mother more than 12 times in the past year.
“It’s a little hard for families to bear,” French grandmother Betty Jenkins told Local 4 News. Not just for family, but for friends, neighbors, everyone who knows him.
Her neighbor, Cheryl Hardy, told the publication that she wanted to know about the interference.
“I wish I could do more. I wish I could save her. I just want to,” he said.
A balloon and candle launch was held in front of the Detroit parents’ home on Sunday.
Several other children were found at home and taken to a local hospital for medical examination, police said.
It is unknown how long the boy’s body was in the basement of the house and how he died. Investigations are ongoing, according to the Interior Ministry.
