The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and the President of Turkey had a meeting on the sidelines of the NATO summit.

According to a report from Downing Street, Boris Johnson welcomed the signing of a memorandum between Turkey, Sweden and Finland that paves the way for accession to the Alliance of the two Scandinavian countries.

He told President Erdogan that the accession of the two countries would make the Alliance stronger as a more difficult decade approaches.

Mr Johnson also “praised President Erdogan ‘s leadership on the issue of grain exports from Ukraine”, adding that President Putin’ s continued naval blockade was creating a “humanitarian catastrophe” both in Ukraine and internationally.

The two leaders also discussed the deepening bilateral relations, especially in the fields of technology and energy.

They agreed to consider measures to improve business travel between the two countries, to create jobs and boost economic growth for both countries.

Earlier, Boris Johnson met with Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Anderson and Finnish President Sauli Niinistστε, reiterating their strong support from London for their NATO aspirations.

They discussed, among other things, how their countries can counter Russian threats in any form, including providing the Ukrainians with the tools to “change the tide of Putin’s futile offensive war.”
