Ukraine: Very difficult situation in Lisichansk – The Russians are approaching

by

“There are a lot of bombings, from many directions. “The Russian army is approaching Lisichansk from different directions,” Sergi Gaidai, the regional governor of eastern Ukraine, said in a video posted on the Telegram.

The situation in Lisichansk, in eastern Ukraine, is “extremely difficult” as “very strong” bombings continue that make it impossible to evacuate civilians, the regional governor said.

“There are a lot of bombings, from many directions. “The Russian army is approaching Lisichansk from different directions,” Sergi Gaidai said in a video posted on the Telegram.

The governor said Russian forces remained “on the outskirts” of the city and no street battles were being fought at the moment. He also denied allegations by pro-Russian separatists that they control half the city.

Lysitsk is on the opposite bank of the river from Sheverodonetsk, which fell to the Russians last week.

According to Gaidai, the bombing is so powerful that it is impossible to continue evacuating the city. Lisitshansk still has about 15,000 citizens, out of the 100,000 inhabitants it had before the war.

“We can only say that there are too many Russians and they are coming from all sides. “There is an incredible number of vehicles and artillery,” he concluded.

Lisichansk is the last major city not yet occupied by the Russians in the Luhansk region, one of the two regions of the Donbas basin that Moscow wants to bring under its full control.
