Anvisa recommends the government bar travelers from four more African countries

by

Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency) made a recommendation last Saturday night (27) for the federal government to prohibit the entry of travelers who were, in the last 14 days, in four African countries.

With that, the agency expanded to ten the number of nations on the continent on the list of sanitary restrictions.

The measure adds Angola, Malawi, Mozambique and Zambia, alongside South Africa, Botswana, Swatini, Lesotho, Namibia and Zimbabwe.

The objective is to try to prevent the arrival of the new variant of Covid-19, named omicron by the WHO (World Health Organization).

Detected earlier this week, the variant identified in South Africa is seen with concern by the WHO (World Health Organization) for having a potential risk of being more transmissible than the previous ones.

The Minister of the Civil House, Ciro Nogueira, said on Friday night (27) that the government will accept the agency’s first recommendation and prohibit the entry of those who have visited South Africa, Botswana, Eswatini in the last 14 days , Lesotho, Namibia and Zimbabwe.

“Brazil will close the air borders to six African countries due to the new variant of the coronavirus. We will protect Brazilians in this new phase of the pandemic”, wrote Nogueira on Twitter.

According to Nogueira, the ordinance would be published this Saturday, which has not yet occurred. The rules would take effect from Monday (29).

According to sheet found out, the new recommendation from Anvisa will be evaluated by the government on Monday.

Three more European countries confirmed cases of Covid-19 caused by omicron this Saturday (27).

Along with Belgium, which registered the first occurrence of the new strain on the continent, are now the United Kingdom, Germany and Italy.

Two British cases have been confirmed by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) in the cities of Chelmsford (northeast London) and Nottingham (north-central England) and are linked to travel to southern Africa.

In Germany, which was already investigating suspicions in the west of the country, confirmation of two other cases came from the state of Bavaria, in the southeast. Two patients who arrived in the country through Munich airport on the 24th are now isolated, according to local health authorities.

Italy already registered a case of omicron in Milan, in a patient who traveled from Mozambique. According to the National Institute of Health, both the patient and their families are in good health.
