According to the Daily Mail, the landing craft hit a Russian sea mine.

The Russian Navy appears to have accidentally hit and sunk one of its own ships in the Black Sea.

According to Daily Mailthe landing craft hit a Russian sea mine, while Putin faces utter humiliation after this blunder.

The crew is said to have survived, but the reputation of Russia’s naval commanders is not so unscathed.

“Near Mariupol, a landing craft of the Black Sea Fleet D-106 blew up on a mine”reported a Telegram channel associated with the Russian navy.

Social media trolling was of course not long in coming.

“Awaiting confirmation of this suicidal gesture of goodwill”the English Luhansk Twitter account said, mocking Russia’s earlier withdrawal statements.

Another user jokes that “Moskva wanted company at the bottom of the sea”.

This news came after Russia’s withdrawal from Fidonisi following heavy shelling by Ukrainian artillery. Russia said it withdrew from the strategically important island as a “goodwill gesture”, following heavy shelling.
