Serbia: 1 dead and six injured in a clash between migrants on the border with Hungary

One migrant was killed and at least six others, including a teenage girl, were injured today in Serbia, near the border with Hungary, when groups of migrants clashed and opened fire on each other, Serbian public broadcaster RTS reported.

The teenager, aged 16, has very serious life-threatening injuries, according to this source.

The incident took place in a forest on the outskirts of Subotica, about 160 kilometers north of Belgrade and one kilometer from the Hungarian border. The police have blocked access to this forest.

Minister of the Interior Alexander Vulin went to the scene.

It is impossible to determine who started the episodes. According to Serbian media, Afghans and Pakistanis were involved in the smuggling of migrants to Hungary. Serbia is on the “Balkan route” followed by many would-be migrants from the Middle East, Africa and Asia to reach western Europe.
