The Russians took control of Luhansk

After the failure of the first attempt to capture Kiev, Russia focused its efforts on expelling the Ukrainian military forces from the regions of Luhansk and Donetsk.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu informed President Vladimir Putin that his entire area Luhansk was “liberated” by Russian forces, as well as separatist forces, as announced today by the Ministry of Defense in Moscow.

After the first attempt to capture Kiev failed, Russia focused its efforts on expelling Ukrainian military forces from the regions of Luhansk and Donetsk in eastern Ukraine, where Moscow-backed separatists have been fighting of Kiev, since the first Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2014.

Russian military forces and separatist forces are in full control of Lisitsansk

Russian military forces and separatist forces in eastern Ukraine are in full control of the city of Lisitsansk, Russian news agency TASS reported, citing the Defense Ministry.

The area had earlier been surrounded by Russian forces. They also hit military infrastructure in Kharkiv.

“The Russian military forces and the forces of the Luhansk People’s Republic are fighting inside Lisitsansk, completely defeating the enemy, who has been surrounded”the Russian Defense Ministry said.

Phone calls made to the Ukrainian General Staff, as well as the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, remained unanswered. The ministry did not immediately respond to a request for comment, which was sent by email.

The Russian Defense Ministry added that it hit military infrastructure in Kharkiv, which is located in the east of Ukraine, as well as a base used by foreign fighters on the outskirts of Mykolayf, which is located in the south of the country.
