The US Naval Forces Central Command specifies that rewards may not be monetary but may include items such as boats, vehicles, food or equipment.
The US Navy offers for the first time payment to individuals who provide information that leads to the seizure of illegal cargo, such as illegal weapons or drugs; in the waters of the Middle Eastannounced today.
The US Naval Forces Central Command (NAVCENT), which is headquartered in Bahrain and covers strategic sea lanes such as the Suez Canal and the Strait of Hormuz, announced that the payments could be in cash or in kind , such as boats.
“NAVCENT could potentially offer a maximum reward of $100,000 for information or non-lethal assistance that supports counter-terrorism operations or leads US naval forces to the successful seizure of illegal cargo such as illegal weapons or drugs,” the military command said in a statement posted on its website.
“Rewards may also be non-monetary and include items such as boats, vehicles, food or equipment,” he adds.
The statement lists a phone number in Bahrain where the information can be given, in addition to a website dedicated to the US Department of Defense pay program.
The statement did not name a specific country as the target of the payoff program, but Reuters noted that its implementation could complicate Iranian arms shipments to Tehran’s allies in Yemen, Syria and Lebanon.
