“Yu-Gi-Oh”: The creator of the series died at the age of 60

THE Takahashi KazukiJapanese manga artist, creator of the comic series “Yu-Gi-Oh”, was found dead yesterday. He was 60 years old.

Its public broadcaster NHK Japan reported that the lifeless body of Takahashi Kazuki was found in the sea, about 300 meters off the coast of Nago on the island of Okinawa. Takahashi Kazuki was wearing snorkeling gear, the broadcaster said.

The body was identified today after the Japanese Coast Guard linked it to a white rental car that had been abandoned about 12 kilometers away. According to the Coast Guard, Takahashi Kazuki had traveled alone to Okinawa. His body bore no obvious signs of injury and an investigation into the cause of his death has now been launched.

Takahashi Kazuki whose real name was Takahashi Kazuo, started out as a manga artist in the early 1980s, but didn’t find much success until he created the ‘Yu-Gi-Oh!’ manga series for boys the 1996. The series centers on a boy who solves an ancient puzzle and awakens an alter-ego within him, who settles disputes by participating in card games.

The manga Yu-Gi-Oh! first published in the magazine Weekly Shonen Jump, where it ran until 2004. Soon, from the manga Yu-Gi-Oh! spawned a hit card game, a TV anime, and a huge range of toys and video games.

The Yu-Gi-Oh! was certified by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s best-selling trading card game.
