A Thai prince-turned-king lives a life of luxury that most of us could only dream of. THE king Mahaalso known as the “mustache king”, became head of the monarchy in Thailand after the death of his father in 2016.
THE Maha Vayralogornas the “Mirror” writes, has a fortune that touches the 24 billion pounds and lives most of his life in Bavaria, Germany. But the 68-year-old’s antics have preoccupied and unsettled Thailand’s monarchy establishment over the years.
A few years before he became king, a video that went viral on Facebook showed the 64-year-old in a Munich shopping mall accompanied by his mistress, not his wife. He was seen wearing jeans and a crop top that appeared to show off the tattoos on his waist.
Since he is the oldest monarch to ascend the throne of the country and spends little time with the people he rules, Maha Vagiraloghorn has already “excommunicated” some of those close to him. In October 2019, the Sineenat Vongwazirapakdi she was stripped of her official titles and military rank when the 35-year-old became the first royal consort in a century.
The former nurse, pilot and bodyguard sat by the king’s wife’s side as his official companion after her relationship with him began when he was heir to the throne.
But in a low-key statement the palace said it was trying to gain equal status with the Queen and called her ungrateful. As punishment, she was stripped of her titles, but after a while it seems the matter was settled…

The king is not, however, the only one who fell victim to a leaked video. The 2009 video reportedly showed his third wife, Srirasmi Suwadee, dressed only in a thong at the king’s pet poodle’s birthday party. In the same year an Australian man was jailed for three years after publishing a book containing an apparently offensive line about the prince. He was later pardoned.
In 2011 Maha Vagiraloghorn agreed to pay a German company £18m as part of a £27m debt, an act the Thai government allegedly covered up.
He had a daughter, Princess Soamsawali Kitiyakara, in 1977 with his first wife, but went on to father five more children with an actress he had a relationship with, Yuvadhida Polpraserth. In 2005 his third wife Srirasmi gave birth to a boy and declared that his “wild days” were finally over.
