The US is concerned about China’s increased military pressure in recent years on Taiwan, an island that Beijing considers an integral part of it and has said it will eventually retake.
The US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken met today with Chinese counterpart of Wang Yi and characterized their conversations “helpful, honest and constructive”although warned Beijing about the Taiwan issue and asked it to condemn the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
“Despite the complexity of our relationship, I can say with some certainty that our delegations found today’s talks useful, frank and constructiveBlinken said after his five-hour meeting with Wang in Bali, Indonesia, a day after the G20 foreign ministers’ meeting.
“I expressed US deep concern about Beijing’s increasingly provocative rhetoric and activities toward Taiwan“, the American minister pointed out, while underlining to his Chinese counterpart that it is “vital to maintain peace and stability in the Taiwan Straits.”

At the same time, Blinken asked Wang to receive distances from Moscow and to condemn Russian “aggression” against Ukraine.
“The time has really come for us to stand up, as G20 countries have done one after the other, to condemn the aggression and demand, among other things, that Russia allow access to food trapped in Ukraine“, underlined Blinken.
He said he saw “no indication” from Russia that it intends to engage in “serious diplomacy.”
Yesterday Friday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov walked out of the G20 summit after receiving a barrage of criticism for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
