After the confirmation of the departure of Boris Johnson from the post of Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, the Conservative Party said this Monday (11) that the replacement will be announced on the 5th of September. The current prime minister remains in office until his successor is defined.
The choice must be made between two names selected in a quick process to reduce the pool of 11 candidates who have declared themselves so far. Boris Johnson should not support anyone.
The voting rules for Boris’ replacement were set on Monday. Candidates must undergo a selection process that involves a series of votes in the so-called 1922 Committee. In each round, the candidates with the lowest number of votes leave the contest until only two names remain.
“We have to make sure there is decent time before the result is announced,” said Graham Brady, chairman of the parliamentary committee responsible for organizing the vote in the Conservative Party.
After an avalanche of crises throughout his term and abandoned even by allies, Boris announced his resignation on Thursday (7).
