San Antonio is famous for its breakfast tacos, and the First Lady was trying—unsuccessfully—to pay a compliment.
The effort of the First Lady of the USA went very wrong Jill Biden to compliment Latinos, saying they are as unique as the breakfast tacos.
Speaking at the UnidosUS, formerly National Council of La Riza (NCLR) conference in San Antonio, Jill Biden sought to praise Raul Izaguirrewho headed the human rights organization for 30 years.
“Raul helped build this organization based on the understanding that the diversity of this community, as unique as the bodegas (convenience stores) of the Bronx, as beautiful as the flowers blooming in Miami, and as unique as the breakfast taco here in San Antonio, it is your strength,” Jill Biden said.
In New York City, people love the convenience that stores known as bodega which are usually owned by traders from Saint Dominic and Puerto Rico. Mrs. Biden he mispronounced their namereferring to them as bogendas, as the Reuters.
Miami is a common destination for Latinos immigrating to the US. San Antonio is also a city with a large Latino community. 65% of the roughly 1.5 million residents are Hispanic or Latino. The city is famous for her kitchen and proud of her breakfast tacos.
THE National Association of Hispanic Journalists he wasn’t crazy about Ms. Biden’s statements and commented that her copywriters needed to demonstrate “a greater understanding of the complexity of our people.
“We’re not tacos. Our heritage as Latinos is shaped by a variety of diasporas, cultures and food traditions and should not be limited to one stereotype.” they say in a statement.
Conservatives on social media did not let the First Lady’s gaffe go unaddressed and wondered what the reactions would have been if a Republican had said something similar.
“No wonder Hispanics are leaving the Democratic Party”commented o Andy Biggs Republican, member of the House of Representatives from Arizona.
