“Don’t be afraid of these bastards, Russia will be free!” the Russian politician shouted in the courtroom after his remand was announced.
Moscow court remanded in custody today one of the last remaining opponents of the Kremlin in Russia, the politician Ilia Yassinwho is prosecuted, along with others, because criticized the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Moscow’s Basmani court has ordered the arrest of popular Russian opposition politician Ilya Yashin on charges of “deliberate public dissemination of false information about the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation”Novaya Gazeta.Europe newspaper reported.
The judge Natalia Dudar accepted the interrogation’s request to detain Ilya Yassin until September 12, and rejected the defense counsel’s request to set an alternative sentence, namely house arrest that would not be related to his isolation.
“Fear not these bastards, Russia will be free!” shouted the Russian politician in the courtroom after the announcement of his pretrial detention.
According to his lawyer Ilia Yashin, Vadim Prokhorov, the reason for his impeachment was Yashin’s broadcast on YouTube on April 7, in which he talked about the mass killings in Buka near Kyiv. Yashin blamed Russian soldiers and showed a BBC video filmed in the city. Russia has denied committing atrocities there and in other areas its forces have seized.
THE Navalnywho is able to tweet through his lawyers and allies, tweeted: “I demand the immediate release of Ilya Yashin” and stated that he had told the truth about what was happening in Ukraine.
Yashin – a known opponent of Kremlin strongman Vladimir Putin and an ally of opposition leader Alexei Navalny (who is serving a nine-year prison sentence) – had been a vocal critic of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which began on 24 February.
It has already been imposed on him several times fine for his statements, while he was detained for 15 days for disobedience to the authority.
If convicted, Yasin faces imprisonment for up to 10 years.
It is recalled that the new strict law in Russia requires that the war in Ukraine be characterized as “special military operation” and not to release information about the Russian armed forces.
