Experts warn that a new wave of the novel coronavirus pandemic has occurred in metropolitan France, attributed to Omicron’s BA.4 and BA.5 subvariants
The health authorities of France announced yesterday Wednesday that in the previous 24 hours, 127,642 cases of SARS-CoV-2 had been confirmed, on the eve of the national holiday.
Experts warn that a new wave of the novel coronavirus pandemic has occurred in metropolitan France, attributed to Omicron’s BA.4 and BA.5 subvariants.
19,580 patients with COVID-19 were treated in hospitals yesterday, of which 1,184 are in intensive care units (ICU).
In the previous 24 hours, another 104 patients succumbed to complications from the infection. The official death toll of the pandemic in France exceeded 150,000 dead on July 8. The total number of cases has exceeded 31.7 million.
Authorities recommend that citizens over the age of 60 who belong to high-risk groups get a second booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccines. They also recommend wearing a mask on public transport.
According to the French public health service, 79% of the country’s population has been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and 59.4 have had at least one booster dose.
