Our abstention in the Senate, during the vote of confidence, did not mean that we did not want to support the government, but it was a reaction to the humiliations we received”, emphasized the president of Five Star Giuseppe Conte
With his video message, which he posted this evening on Facebook, the president of the Five Stars and former prime minister Giuseppe Conte, referred to the political developments and the resignation submitted, last Thursday, by the Italian prime minister, Mario Draghi. A resignation which, for now, the president of the Italian republic, Sergio Mattarella, has decided not to accept.
“If clear answers are not given, the Five Stars will not be able to share the responsibility of participating in the government. Our abstention in the Senate, during the vote of confidence, did not mean that we did not want to support the government, but it was a reaction to the humiliations we received,” Conte emphasized.
“In a constructive spirit, we invited Draghi to start a dialogue on issues that are a priority for us, and with reference to how the social and economic emergency can be overcome. We haven’t received a response yet, we have recorded some general “openings”, as far as urgent matters are concerned, but without any concrete decision”, added the head of the “five stars”.
With this message, Giuseppe Conte essentially wanted to underline that the “rescue” of the Italian government with broad participation depends on Draghi himself, and not on the Five Star Movement. Until now, that is, the government crisis that broke out last Thursday, does not seem to be able to be solved, thanks to some compromise and the distance that separates the positions of the Five Stars and those of the Italian technocrat prime minister, remains enormous.
