Front page even in the newspaper Hurriyetone of the largest in Turkey, has become the subject of the origin of kokoretsi, since the Turks have started… a fight to claim the “presentity” of the dish.
Thus, on its front page, Hurriyet had the headline “And the chick caused tension in the Aegean”.
In fact, on the inside pages, experts analyze that there are recipes for kokoretsi since 1883, which proves that it is Turkish after all.
The issue has dominated the Turkish press in recent days.
Yesterday, entire reports and front pages were dedicated to Turkish media: “After baklava, tzatziki and imam baildi, Greece is now claiming kokoretsi too! Greece advertises traditional Turkish food as its own. We discussed this issue with the chefs and they told us that we will not leave the chicken in the hands of the Greeks!”
In fact, there was also a report with Turkish citizens saying in front of the camera: “I challenge them, it’s ours. Let them come and see, I make the best. They didn’t take us to the EU, now they’re going to take the chick too?”
Another citizen said: “Let’s have a Greek come and eat kokoretsi together.” Whoever eats more, then the chicken will be his”, while a third said: “Our chicken is different, it is wonderful. They go and claim our cock. The kokoretsi is something left from our ancestors.
