In the village of Biskaros, the mercury rose to 42.6 degrees Celsius
In at least 64 of its communities of France record high temperatures were recorded today as the heat wave hitting the country reaches its peak.
According to Météo France, very high temperatures were recorded mostly at the 690 measuring stations maintained by the weather service along the Atlantic coast. An all-time record was set in the Land region, where in the village of Biskaros the thermometer showed 42.6°C today. In the north, near the port of Havre, the temperature reached 38.2°C. It was even higher in Noirmoutier (39.7), while the situation was a little better in the Ye Islands, with 35.9 degrees.
“Unfortunately, it was to be expected”said the meteorologist Mathieu Sorel speaking to AFP, explaining that heat waves are multiplying and intensifying, due to climate change. It is also significant that the temperatures recorded in recent days are much higher than previous records. “More than 4 degrees (difference from the previous record) in Brest is colossal,” he said, explaining that in Brittany the previous record was set in August 2003 and was 35.1 degrees, while yesterday the mercury reached 39.3 grades.
