Draghi expressed his gratitude to the ministers and MPs
The warm applause of many MPs and ministers that he received earlier in the Italian Parliament, “bent” him Mario Draghi. Draghi has announced that he will submit his resignation as prime minister to the Italian president.
Draghi expressed his gratitude to ministers and MPs, saying: “Thank you, even the central bankers they have a heart”referring to a recent joke he made about central bankers “not using their hearts.”
“Thank you for the work we did together. In light of the vote expressed yesterday by the Senate of the Republic, I request that the meeting be suspended because I am going to the President of the Republic to communicate my decisions,” Draghi said.
The meeting with Sergio Mattarella lasted less than half an hour. He will remain caretaker prime minister.
On Wednesday, the Draghi government he eventually secured a vote of confidence from the Senate of Rome, remaining however under collapse.
The three main coalition parties, Five StarsForza Italia and Lega, refused to take part in the vote, effectively “torpedoing” his government.
The Italian Prime Minister received 95 votes in favor and 38 against in the Senate of 315 members, but this prevalence has virtually no impact. It is recalled that in the Italian senate, for an absolute majority, 158 votes are required.
