US President Joe Biden has Covid, the White House said on Thursday. According to a statement, he has “very mild” symptoms and will keep working remotely.
According to CNN, Biden had symptoms such as tiredness, cough and a runny nose, but he did not have a fever. Biden is being treated with the antiviral drug Paxlovid, authorized in the country and used to reduce the risk of serious consequences of the disease.
The contagion brings extra concerns due to the age of the president, who is 79 years old. Covid usually generates more complications in older people. The president is vaccinated and has had two booster shots.
The US government has promised to provide constant updates on the president’s health. Biden will remain in isolation at the White House until he has a negative Covid test result. He will hold meetings virtually in the meantime.
Biden’s wife, Jill, also tested for Covid on Thursday and received a negative result. She is traveling to Detroit on Thursday, and has kept her schedule public.
The president had traveled on Wednesday (20) to Somerset, in Massachusetts, and made a speech in the open air. He appeared to be in normal condition and wore sunglasses during the event. Biden had been tested for Covid for the last time on Tuesday (19), with a negative result.
The president would make another trip this Thursday, to Pennsylvania, which was cancelled. The Democrat had a busy travel schedule in July. Last week, he was in Israel and Saudi Arabia.
