The protest was organized to protest the recent Supreme Court decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which violated federal protections against abortion.
Carolyn Maloney, Ocasio Cortez’s New York counterpart, issued an official statement shortly after the mass arrest: “If a woman does not manage her body and make decisions about her health, including assisted reproductive technology, there is no democracy.”

Protesters have planned to march from Parliament House, an unopened route, to the Supreme Court since the decision to overturn Roe v. Wade in June.
Parliamentary Police ordered the protesters to “cease and desist” about two minutes after entering the blockaded area.
