Buckingham Palace has confirmed that the Queen will not attend the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games.
The sports tournament will kick off in Birmingham from July 28 to August 8.
The Commonwealth will feel the monarch’s absence from the ceremony, as the game has been close to his heart for a long time.
He attended opening events around the world, from Canada to Jamaica.
This year’s tournament will be inspiring for the first 96-year-old player after the death of Prince Philip, who accompanied him in the previous match.
Prince Charles will represent the Queen at the opening ceremony on Thursday. He is expected to read the monarch’s message about the start of the tournament.
We will also be acquiring Commonwealth Games batons that have been shipped to all 72 Commonwealth countries and territories during the 294-day journey.
Members of the royal family, including the Duchess of Cambridge, the Princess Princess and the Countess Wessex, will attend this year’s Commonwealth Games event.
They meet athletes, volunteers and support staff during the tournament, visit the venue and participate in sports matches.
At the Federal Leaders Summit in Rwanda last month, Charles said he was looking forward to the tournament.
He states: “In a world now full of conflict and division, these games, the so-called ‘friendly games’, are a wonderful celebration of our quest for unity, diversity and shared excellence.
In her Christmas broadcast message to the Commonwealth, the Queen was also looking forward to Birmingham 2022.
He states: “I am looking forward to the Commonwealth Games. Button is currently traveling the length and breadth of the Commonwealth and heading to Birmingham, the beacon of hope for that journey.
“It’s an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of athletes and bring like-minded countries together.”
The Queen has withdrawn from various royal duties due to ongoing mobility issues.
However, he recently approved a trip to Scotland to celebrate Royal Week.
