The day after he tested positive for coronavirus, President Joe Biden gave an unplanned virtual speech, coughing and giving a thumbs up.

Biden, 79, spoke briefly about gas prices in a video from the second floor of a White House residence that a reporter viewed from the Eisenhower Executive Office Building on Friday afternoon.

“Start by apologizing for your voice. I feel much better than I expected,” the president said.

In a lower voice than usual, Biden said, “Gas prices have dropped for 38 straight days this summer. As you know, you can find gas for less than $3.99 at more than 30,000 gas stations in more than 35 states. .

Some people have seen it as an attempt by the White House to show that Biden is healthy enough to continue leading the country, despite being infected with Covid-19.

Biden, who was fully vaccinated and double immunized, tested positive for the virus on Thursday morning. He soon isolated himself at the White House and continued his duties on Zoom and by phone, spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said.

Jean-Pierre and the government’s coronavirus coordinator, Dr. Ashishger, said Biden was in good shape, but declined to ask why his doctor, Dr. Kevin O’Connor, did not answer the direct question.

On Friday morning, O’Connor wrote that Biden was still showing mild symptoms, even though his history of asthma and age put him at higher risk.

“Her symptoms continue to be characterized by rhinorrhea (runny nose) and malaise, sometimes unproductive, and she now has a ‘loose’ cough,” O’Connor wrote.

Your voice will be deeper than this morning. Her pulse, blood pressure, respiratory rate, and oxygen saturation remain perfectly normal on room air.

According to O’Connor, Biden has stopped taking the blood thinner Elikis, which is used to prevent strokes in people with irregular heartbeats, and is instead taking aspirin as a temporary blood thinner.

“The president is holding up well to the deal. Pax Rovid will continue as planned,” he said.

His symptoms are controlled with oral rehydration therapy, acetaminophen (Tylenol), and an albuterol inhaler, used as needed. Your apixaban (Elixaban) and rosuvastatin (Crestor) are preserved during treatment with Paxlobide and for several days after the last dose.
