Biden completed his first full day of Paxlovid treatment last night and will continue to take the drug, Dr. Kevin O’Connor said
The president of the USA Joe Biden is responding positively to a drug intended to combat the symptoms of COVID-19 in people already infected with the virus, his doctor said Friday.
Biden completed his first full day of treatment with the Paxlovid last night and will continue to take the drug, Dr. Kevin O’Connor said in a letter released by the White House. The president was also given Tylenol to treat a fever that reached 37.4 degrees Celsius. His temperature has since stabilized.
“The president is responding well to treatment,” O’Connor said, further noting that Biden’s pulse, blood pressure, respiratory rate and oxygen saturation “remain absolutely normal.”
“As I mentioned earlier, the President is fully vaccinated, so I expect he will respond positively, as most maximally protected patients do. There has been nothing in the course of his illness so far to cause me to change that initial recommendation,” he added.
Biden will continue to take Paxlovid, Tylenol and albuterolor through an inhaler said the doctor. The president is currently off two medications he usually takes for his heart and high cholesterol while he is on Paxlovid and will continue to be off them “for several days after his last dose.”
In between he will be given low dose aspirin to act as a blood thinner.
Biden is currently in isolation at the White House after testing positive for the coronavirus on Thursday.
