The body of a man was found after a 21-year-old swimmer disappeared in the water near Clactone Wharf in Essex on Tuesday.

Five were removed from the sea after the swimmer ran into trouble, but at least one remained missing despite a thorough search.

The rescued swimmer was taken to hospital on the hottest Tuesday in Britain.

However, a 21-year-old man was missing for more than 24 hours, narrowing his search.

Essex Police said the body of a man was found in nearby Jaywick this morning, but no official identification has yet been made.

The statement reads: “This morning, paramedics involved in the search for the last man at sea near Clactone Wharf found the body of the man in Jaywick.

“The ID card has not been issued yet.

“We are in contact with our international partners to get in touch with our family of 21 years.

This week’s heat set a new record for the hottest day in the UK with 40.3°C on Tuesday in Coningsby, Lincolnshire.

This is 1.6°C higher than the previous record of 38.7°C in Cambridge three years ago.

The body of a teenager was found Tuesday in the River Thames in Richmond, London.

On the same day, a tourist was pulled from the sea without responding and died on the Isle of Wight.
