In April, state television reported that three people accused of Mossad links and involved in the publication of “classified documents” were arrested in Iran’s southeastern Sistan-Baluchistan province.

The Iranian authorities announced today that they have dislocated one “terrorist” network linked to Israel’s intelligence agency, the Mossadwhich was planning attacks against “sensitive sites” in Iran, the official Iranian news agency Irna reported today.

“Members of a terrorist espionage network linked to the Mossad were arrested,” Irna reported, citing a statement from Iran’s Intelligence Ministry that did not provide details on the number of those arrested or their nationalities. It states, however, that the suspects “entered Iran through Kurdistan”, in northern Iraq.

“They intended to carry out acts of sabotage and unprecedented acts of terrorism in sensitive areas and predetermined targets, using effective operational equipment and the most powerful explosives,” the statement added, without giving more information about the targets in question.

“Their weapons, explosives and equipment were also all confiscated,” according to Irna.

Iran has repeatedly announced the arrest of agents working for the intelligence services of foreign countries, most notably its sworn enemy, Israel.

The Islamic Republic has also accused the Jewish state of sabotage at some of its nuclear facilities and for killing Iranian scientists.
