Portugal today inaugurated the largest vaccination center for Covid-19, which will start operating normally from tomorrow, at a time when rising infections have forced authorities to reintroduce travel restrictions.
Although 87% of the country’s population has been vaccinated – one of the highest rates in the world – cases have risen in the past month, though not to levels seen in other countries, such as Austria or Belgium.
The new vaccination center, at a kiosk in the Park of Nations, was inaugurated by Lisbon Mayor Carlos Moenta. In this area, next to the river Tagus, it is possible to vaccinate 6,000 people daily and the number can be increased to 9,000, if necessary.
Health services administer the booster dose to people over the age of 65 and to vulnerable groups. They hope that by the end of January a quarter of the population will have taken this booster dose.
To curb the increase in cases, the government re-imposed the mandatory use of masks indoors, recommended teleworking, if possible, and required all aircraft passengers, even those vaccinated, to undergo a negative PCR test. their arrival.
The measures will take effect from tomorrow Wednesday.
