A devastating flood in eastern Kentucky on Thursday killed at least three people and inundated homes and roads with heavy rain.

Gov. Andy Beshear confirmed three deaths at a news conference Thursday morning, calling it “one of the worst and most devastating floods in Kentucky history.”

Images of the devastation show the house being completely submerged or submerged to the roof, downed trees and power lines, landslides and severely damaged roads.

Some of the cities hardest hit by dangerous weather reported 9 to 12 inches of rain overnight, with storms causing massive flooding.

Hundreds of families have been evacuated, probably due to a natural disaster, according to the governor. At least 20,000 residents lost power during the storm, which is expected to last through Thursday night.

“A lot of people are going to need our help, a lot of people are going to evacuate, and that’s another disaster that takes time to recover from,” Bescher said. Additional.

Flood warnings have been issued for the area, according to the National Weather Service. More than 6 inches of rain was expected overnight and another 2-3 inches Thursday night.

The National Guard was dispatched to a county in eastern Kentucky early Thursday to help search for many of the missing.

The devastating flooding in Kentucky comes just two days after record-setting rains hit St. Louis, Missouri. In St. Louis, Missouri, nearly a foot of rain quickly inundated the neighborhood, killing at least one person and injuring dozens more.
