London: Fire near Heathrow Airport under control – 10 people freed

Local residents told to stay indoors with windows closed – International airport flight cancellation averted

The fire that broke out on Monday afternoon near the airport was brought under complete control Heathrowin London.

The fire department announced that strong forces will remain at the scene, however injuries and inconvenience to passengers at the international airport were avoided.

They were burned by the fire crops, a park, a cemetery and an animal sanctuarywhile 10 people had to be removed from places where they were trapped.

The station commander John Owen, who was at the scene, said: “Firefighters worked incredibly hard in hot and dry conditions to bring the fire under control. They are expected to remain on the scene this afternoon, extinguishing the remaining small pockets of fire.

The fire was producing a large amount of smoke and residents in the area, particularly around Bedfont Sports Club, were told to keep their windows and doors closed. The smoke has now subsided. About 10 people were evacuated as a precaution and fortunately, there are no reports of injuries at this time. Good co-operation with local authorities and Heathrow Airport minimized the effects of smoke at the airport in the early stages of the fire.”

Fire crews from the stations rushed to the scene Feltham, Chiswick, Heathrow, Heston and surrounding fire stations, as well as crews from Surrey Fire and Rescue Service.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
