A 22-year-old man has been charged with the murder of 9-year-old Lilia Barolti, who was stabbed to death in the street on Thursday.
Daividas Skebas, a Lithuanian citizen accused of murdering a girl, will appear in court tomorrow.
He was reportedly playing near his sister’s house, where his mother worked, and locals recounted how hula hoops and toy cars were left at the scene.
Skebas was arrested after four CCTV images were released that detectives said they wanted to track down.
The man was shown in the Warmgate and Fountain Lane areas of Boston at 6:15 p.m. Thursday, five minutes before Lillia was found dead.
Lincolnshire Police also said two people arrested earlier this week have been released without further action.
Authorities previously said they weren’t looking for anyone else in connection with the death.
Lincolnshire Police said in a statement tonight: “On July 28 at approximately 6:20pm, Lillia tragically passed away following an incident on Boston’s Fountain Lane. It is believed she was stabbed.
“Her parents are supported by specially trained officers and we urge you to respect her privacy during this particularly difficult time. Her well-being is our priority. She will continue to exist.”
Chief Superintendent Martin Parker said: “This is a heartbreaking incident that has affected many people in Boston and beyond.
“Our thoughts remain with Lilia’s family during this very difficult time.
“Our response to such a devastating incident included devoting significant resources to investigating and reaching out to those in Boston who were understandably shocked by Lilia’s death.
“Our officers were in the city, talking to the communities and listening to their problems.
“Finally, I would like to once again thank the public and the media for their cooperation in this difficult and rapidly evolving case. Our officers and staff will appreciate your support.
