An 18-year-old college student was shot and killed by a professor at the college he planned to attend.

Freshman Anna Jones died Saturday night in Carrollton, Georgia, after 47-year-old Richard Sigman allegedly opened fire on a parked car, police said.

Zigman, who worked at the University of Western Georgia, was seen arguing with another man at a pizzeria called Leopold’s in Adamson Square. Sigman reportedly threatened to shoot the other man who alerted the guards.

Sigman was asked to leave by security guards and was last seen walking to the parking lot.

Zigman then fired into a parked car, beating Jones to death, police said. A friend took him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Sigman was charged with murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm while committing the crime. He is being held in the Carroll County Jail.

Carrollton police found Sigman outside the parking lot “shortly after the shooting.” He was drunk during the restaurant fight and shooting.

Police do not believe that Sigman and Jones knew each other.

“UWG has terminated Richard Sigman’s employment and continues to work with the City of Carrollton Police Department, which is leading this ongoing investigation,” Western Georgia University said in a statement.

Sigman has been working at the University’s Small Business Development Center since November 2012, according to Sigman’s LinkedIn page. He is currently listed as Professor of Management and Entrepreneurship.

“On behalf of the university, I extend my deepest condolences to Anna’s family and many friends,” said Dr. Brendan Kelly of UWG. “At this incredibly difficult time, please keep Anna’s family, friends and everyone affected by this tragedy in our hearts.

Jones recently graduated from Mount Zion High School in the class of 2022. He entered the University of Western Georgia in the fall.

Mount Zion High School posted on Facebook: “Anna loved this school and this community and will miss her.

Friends of Jones’s family launched a GoFundMe to help pay for his funeral.

Jennifer Leppard, who launched the GoFundMe page, said: “She was a beautiful and kind soul and her smile lit up a room.
