North Macedonia, NATO’s newest member state, announced last week that it was sending T-72 tanks to Ukraine’s armed forces

Russia considers the decision of its authorities a “big mistake”. North Macedonia to donate tanks T-72 in Ukraine, said the spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova.

“Although it is outdated equipment, the fact remains that Skopje is its loyal ally NATO and are involved in the delivery of weapons to Ukraine, thus contributing to the continuation of the criminal activity of the regime in Kyiv against the civilian population in Donbas,” Zakharova added.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defense of North Macedonia, reacting to these statements by the representative of the Russian Ministry, pointed out that “North Macedonia is a sovereign state that makes decisions independently, guided by the principles of respect for international law, the UN Charter , its principles and commitments OSCE to protect the European security architecture and global stability”.

North Macedonia, NATO’s newest member state, announced last week that it was sending tanks T-72 in the armed forces of Ukraine, as Skopje prepares to modernize the hardware of its armed forces.

North Macedonia’s defense ministry did not specify the number of these tanks being sent to Ukraine. These are battle tanks which Skopje had procured in 2001 from Ukraine.

The government of North Macedonia has unequivocally condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, while largely following EU decisions on the matter and imposing sanctions against Russia.
