The first cargo of grain exported by Ukraine since the start of the Russian invasion on February 24 left the port of Odessa on Monday
Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar announced this evening the departure of three ships loaded with grain from Ukrainian ports, tomorrow Friday. “After intensive efforts at the Joint Coordination Center, three ships are scheduled to depart from Ukrainian ports on Friday,” Akar said, without specifying the port from which they would begin their journey.
The first shipment of grain exported by Ukraine since the start of the Russian invasion on February 24 left the port of Odessa on Monday. After inspecting Turkish, Russian and Ukrainian experts off Istanbul on Wednesday, he continued his journey to Lebanon.
This inspection marked the end of a “trial phase” of operations to implement the international agreement signed in Istanbul last month, allaying concern about the risk of a global food crisis.
Based in Istanbul, the Joint Coordination Center oversees Ukrainian grain exports and ensures strict implementation of the agreement signed on July 22 between Russia and Ukraine, brokered by Turkey and under the auspices of the United Nations.
Moreover, the head of Turkish diplomacy Mevlut Cavusoglu and UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres had a telephone conversation on the issue of Ukrainian grain exports today, as was announced by Turkey’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
